Cirencester GB
Comprehensive bass technique guidance
Exercises seem primarily aimed at piano accordion players. The CBA fingering for some exercises seem very clumsy.
Print size is small. It was compiled many years ago and this shows.

Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating This is great for exercises for both hands, but poor on tunes .It is very old fashioned and has not really been revised since it was written, that said it does what is says on the tin and although it is an expensive tutor I think it is worth the money.Would not recommend to total beginner though, far too wordy and would put you off playing forever!

Customer Rating One of few tutors for chromatic button accordion (CBA), reflecting the current popularity of piano accordions (PA) and the relative neglect of buttons. This is an English language reprint of Maestro Anzaghi's 213 page 'complete method' for both piano and chromatic system first published in 1950 from the catalogue of G. Ricordi, Milan (now part of the Universal Music Publishing Group.) The content is solid, but presentation is dated as you might expect, with convoluted explanations which sometimes take several readings to understand. This book is for serious learners with an emphasis on technical exercises, and unlike many tutors, contains fingering marks for both PA and CBA. A background understanding of elementary music theory (harmonic structure, scales, chords) is assumed. You have to laugh at the titles of some of the pieces: 'The Pretty Blonde in the Gondola' and 'The Pretty Brunette to the Brook' show just how times have changed. Anzaghi's family feature in many of the photos, particularly little Davide who went on to become a composer in his own right (one wonders whether he had any choice in learning the accordion.) This is a thick slice of history. Nonetheless, if you are serious about the chromatic button/piano accordion, and are not afraid of hard work, this book will take you a long way. A companion volume by Anzaghi of selected exercises based on the Hanon method is also available from some retailers (not Musicroom at the time of writing.) We do need some more up to date English language CBA tutors though.
