Ruthin GB Singer performer, instrumentalist.
There are 49 songs, including some lesser-known ones, all carefully arranged by Cecil Bolton. As far as I can tell, the songs are reproduced in their complete forms with the verses and the musical notation to these, ie. the verses usually have a different melody from the chorus and it is important to have both melodies in order to play and/or sing the song in question.( E.g., Don't Dilly Dally On The Way, Love's Old Sweet Song, being just two examples) This book does this well, and has some interesting period photos of music hall performers.
One of the pleasures of finding old songs is reading the details of when the song was first published and which artist or artists usually performed it; in the case of this book the songs do have the composers/lyricists details, but because they have all been arranged by Cecil Bolton they are © 2001 Middle Eight Music.
This might seem a minor "niggle", but anyone interested in Music Hall values such details; and it wouldn't be difficult to include them, as is the case in the entertaining book: Songs of the British Music Hall, also available from The Music Room.
