Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating I bought this collection after hearing some of the songs on a recently released album by Baritone Roderick Williams And Pianist Iain Burnside. I particularly liked 'A Blacksmith courted Me' which I wanted to learn and am now going to sing in the English composers' class in a local music Festival and also as an audition piece for CBSO Chorus. Some songs are familiar e.g Seventeen come Sunday & Sowing the Seeds of love; others less so and I now have at least another 2 to add to my repertoire. I think this collection would be a useful addition for any Recital singer, particularly of English songs.

Customer Rating This makes an excellent addition to the other volume of Butterworth Songs " A Shropshire Land" George Butterworth was killed at the age of 31 during the battle of the Somme in 1916. His output as composer was limited and his early death was a loss to the musical world. The nature of these works are very different to the Housemann settings of a Shropshire Lad. Typical old english traditional folk songs:-boys meets girls girl meets boy then they leave. Also rare settings of texts by Oscar Wilde, Shelley and RL Stevenson
