This quartet was written in 1893 during Dvorak’s stay in America as director of the National Conservatoire of Music in New York. The influence of Negro melodies and of deep homesickness is apparent throughout the work, but most noticeably in the expressive melody of the second movement.

Available here is the set of performance parts for Dvorak's String Quartet No.12 In F American Op.96.

Each instrument has an interesting part to play.
The first violin needs to be about grade 8 standard.
Some tricky rhythms but good for exercising the brain!

Customer Rating Beautiful quartet, all the parts get a chance to shine. I am a cello, so I love the first & second movements - not easy for grade 5 me, but I am determined to master them. I have even been known to do some practice at it !
NB the cello part includes some treble clef (usually played an octave lower) so unless you are fluent clef-wise, you need to download the 'dvorak conversion kit' from which gives you the 'false treble' as paste-over tenor clef bits.
In summary, tough, but worth the effort.
