Rating Review
Customer Rating I'm delighted with this book. It ingnores TAB, but in doing so shows you step by step (string by string) how to read and play 'proper' musical notation. It therefore takes longer to work through, but it's presented in small manageable progressions, that give you a nice, steady feeling of accomplishment, and a much deeper understanding of the instrument. There are also plenty of snippets of well known tunes to practice on, which is something I found missing from some of the other tutor books. The accompanying CD provides a backing track to play along with for many of the tunes in the book, however I would have preferred if they'd given a demo of how the student's part should sound.

Customer Rating The method is systematic and progressive. I bought this with a view to using it in my teaching. It would work well with able pupils, but for many it would probably get too hard too soon. My main complaint is about the CD, it is obviously a copy of an old tape or LP; I tuned my guitar to the tuning notes and as I progressed through the book, playing with the few pieces on the CD, the pitch on the recording became flatter and flatter. I doubt if I would ask my pupils to buy this book. If the producers of this book re-recorded an accompanying CD with more or all of the pieces on it, it would be much more useful.

Customer Rating Bought this to try to get back into guitar playing after several years gap. It would be OK for beginners as there are many exercises, but was not exactly what I needed as much of this is too basic.

Customer Rating This book is a great place to start learning classical guitar. I have found the tuition on posture, hand and finger positioning is excellent. I have also now start to learn to read music from the book.
What I do like is the structure and when using the cd it ties in well with the book.
Once I have completed this book I know there is book 2 in the series and I would be more than happy to purchase it as it will cover all the areas in my next stage of development.
The price is very reasonable and the look of the book is glossy and very professional.
