Clear, easy to read, well set out. It progresses at a sensible speed. I like the way some pieces will combine to make duets - good preparation for ABRSM Music Medal exams, which I use a lot in my teaching. It introduces just enough musical symbols etc without cluttering things up.

Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating This is a really great book. The songs may not be very interesting but it gives you a great feel for the music and shows you how to express sounds and make songs that you can recognise on your guitar. I really recommend for a young guitar beginner. Also perfect for acoustic.

Customer Rating I cannot rate this series highly enough. I am a guitar teacher, and find that students make thorough progess using it. The course moves fairly slowly, making sure the student has a really good foundation in proper technique and music reading. Each piece builds on the previous piece, so the student applies what he or she has learnt. It doesn't assume previous knowledge. BUY IT!

Customer Rating As a Guitar Teacher I always recommend this book. It's fun & easy to use for children & illustrated throughout. The whole series of these Guitarist Way Tutor books are well thought out with plenty of solos & duets. Ideal for using in the class room or one to one.

Customer Rating The progression of the book is slow and the music is dated, I find kids aren't enthusiastic about it and it puts them off. Progress can be made faster with a more contemporary approach.

Customer Rating Brilliant book for the 7 to 10 years age group and a little older. Studying all four volumes is good preparation for Graded exams Prelim to Grade 2. Its worth getting hold of the CD's that accompany the seris - you can teach the hear and copy method for the very young and supplement the books with other materials from the series. All my students have achieved Merits and Distinctions in early grades having followed this seris. Very hightly recommended. Jayne Lloyd, Guitar Teacher , Warwick UK

Customer Rating Wonderful, tried & tested book for beginner pupils. The children learn at a pace suitable for them with carefully composed pieces & exercises. I have been teaching with it for 16 years!!

Customer Rating Very good introduction to fingerstyle Guitar playing.
Now for secondary school age, as it is decorated with amusing doodles.
Great for kids.
A logical and comprehensive approach.

Customer Rating I can't understand what all the fuss is about:
* No text or explanations to speak of - you'd definitely need to have a teacher if using this book.
* You have to wait to page 5 before finding anything that sounds like a tune, i.e. an unnecessarily boring introduction, and many of the other tunes in the book are rather dull.
* No teacher accompaniments. You wouldn't find a piano/wind/string/brass book without teacher accompaniments - for good reason. Even the more boring tunes in this book could be rescued with artful teacher accompaniments + the better tunes could sound much more musical.
* Poor amateurish presentation/artwork.
* Juvenile style OK for young children, but not a book that would suit cool teenagers or adults.

I've used this book from time to time with students coming from other teachers. It's OK as far as it goes. It's just not very inspiring and there are better books available. It's also quite expensive considering it's only 16 pages long, and most of the book consists of simple folk songs that any guitar teacher could put together over a weekend.
On the plus side there are about three good tunes at the end of the book, which is why I give it two stars rather than one.

Customer Rating great book, easy for my 7 yr old son to understand, he is now progressing well with the guitar.

Customer Rating Book 1 of Nuttall and Whitworth's 4 book set. I have tried many guitar tutors over the years, and these are the best. A smooth progression of varied and enjoyable pieces, from complete beginner to Grade 2 level. Although aimed at children, I have had success using these books with adults, too.
The pieces are arranged so that they can be played solo, or grouped together to form duets or trios.

Customer Rating This is the recommended guitar starter book for our secondary school. My 11 year old daughter finds it easy to use.

Customer Rating As a Peripatetic drum tutor, I wish someone would write a series of basic, fun, informative and cheap books like these for drums. Our Guitar teachers use these and they are simple brilliant!!

Customer Rating The major scale exercises only go up to the 5th but then it has C major scale “plagal range” which includes the 6th and 7th in the lower octave. Why not just have a full major scale.

Customer Rating I love this whole series of Guitar Tutor Books. The Children enjoy playing from them & there are lots of tunes & melodies that can be played as an ensemble or just solo. The idea of the book one, two, three & four is helpful too as the children are encouraged to progress in 'bite-sized' portions.

Customer Rating I already knew it was a good book... but I needed 20 of them for our classical guitar classes... and i needed them quickly.
Music room delivered the next day, no problems and great to do business with.
Highly recommended.

Customer Rating I find this book particularly good for group teaching, with all the various pieces and excercises which can be played as ensemble pieces. Good training for the ensemble part of the ABRSM Music Medals.

Customer Rating Good book for younger children, but teenagers tend to get through it quite quickly. Would have preferred to have had quavers introduced earlier in this book rather than waiting for book 2.

Customer Rating A fantastic book for starters especially for younger learners as the basic rudiments of standard notation are all covered. I recommend the whole series actually as an experienced teacher.

Customer Rating This book is a must for anyone who wants to learn classical guitar. My tutor recommended it and I can see why. It starts on basics, but builds a very solid foundation on which to go forward.
