Customer Rating My item was delivered within a few days of ordering and was well packaged. The Hermit Songs are of an advanced level, requiring excellent musical knowledge. The cycle consists of ten songs which are settings of anonymous Irish texts from the eighth to thirteenth centuries. They are thoughts, observations and poems written by monks and scholars, often on the margins of manuscripts which they were working on at the time and which were not really meant to be seen. Some are literal translations and others were poetically translated. The songs are delightful, often humerous and sometimes moving. My particular favourites at the moment are 'St. Ita's vision' a moving poem about a vision of nursing the baby Jesus, the joyful 'Heavenly Banquet', 'Promiscuity' which is a rather amusing thought on 'fair Edan's' sleeping habits and 'The Monk and His Cat' a lovely happy song of a contented life. The texts I believe are what attract singers and listeners to these songs and the music compliments them beautifully. This cycle will delight any singer and recital audience.
