The Paperback Edition of the definitive biography of Thin Lizzy's charismatic lead singer, Phil Lynott. Telling the fascinating and tragic story of one of rock music's most enigmatic and exciting figures, The Rocker is everything that any fan could want to know about the original rocker.

Using dozens of interviews with family, friends and band members, author Mark Putterford gives a touching and sometimes shocking account of the life of the one and only black Irish rock legend. From his early beginnings in a town just outside Dublin, to his incredible storming of the hard rock sound in the 1970s and 1980s, to his tragic demise at the cruel hand of drugs in 1986.

This really is a brilliant biography for any fan of Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott or of classic rock or Guitar-based music in general. It's the story of a genuine outsider, possibly the greatest black rock musician since Jimi Hendrix. On his own he's an interesting figure, but combine this with his turbulent lifestyle, his absolutely incredible musicianship, and the tragic, almost mythical circumstances surrounding his death, The Rocket  becomes a poignant tale of the rise and fall of a rock superstar.

The man who penned such perfect rock belters as 'Jailbreak,' 'The Boys Are Back In Town,' and 'The Rocker' is revealed in this intimate portrait of a genius, continuing a long line of literary Irishmen like Joyce, Yeats, Wilde and Van Morrison. The story is most definitely a page-turner, a testament to the exciting and, at times, unbelievable life that the Thin Lizzy legend led.

Phil Lynott: The Rocker is a brilliant biography about an even more brilliant star that would be immensely interesting for any fan of rock music and Thin Lizzy.

Customer Rating An absolute must buy for any fan of Phil Lynott or Thin Lizzy. Covering virtually every aspect of his life, from his early days in Dublin, brought up by his single mother and then by his grandparents whilst his mum worked in England, through to forming Thin Lizzy and conquering the rock world, to his untimely drugs related death in 1986. There is nothing that this book misses out. its all written from first hand interviews with everybody related to Phil and Lizzy, his mother and family, all ex members, management and industry insiders which pieve together a chronological account of his upbringing and musical career. Hard to pit down once you start reading but it can also be used as a reference book for finding out about a particular album or incident. Absulutely fascinating. I bought the book on its first run back in 94 and its great that its been re-issued again. better than any other book on Phil and one of the most in depth and unbiased music biographies i've ever read.
