Customer Rating For Jimi Hendrix, Woodstock was probably (by Hendrix's standards) not his greatest, but his most honest performance, and turned out to be his most celebrated show ever captured. He was playing with his new band Gypsy Sun and Rainbows (Band Of Gypsys) and this was their first show of the experimental line-up. The band were supposed to be playing on the last night of the festival, but got delayed to the next morning. So instead of the 200,000 people who were there the night before, only 25,000 stayed to see them play! The last half of the set, can be described as some of the most incredible, emotional, soulful and embracing display of music ever heard. If you listen to/understand Live At Woodstock you will realize that Jimi Hendrix was combining his rock and bluesmanship with the technicalities of Jazz, creating a new hybrid of musical styles. When people try and explain Hendrix's playing style through his licks and uses of chords or whatever it doesn't define it in full detail, Live At Woodstock captures the very essence of the progressing direction of his music. Firstly of all, at heart Jimi is a bluesman and possibly the greatest, he explored beyond the boundries of blues into the territories of psychedelia, rock, funk and Jazz. The performance of Woodstock was the first ray of light from his new band, whose work was cut short when Hendrix tragically died a year later. James Marshall Hendrix was truly the greatest guitar player that ever walked the planet, every guitar player should be inspired by Hendrix for the way he reshaped the perceptions of music and sonic possibilities. If Jimi was alive I reckon he would be playing some Jazzy-Blues...Oh yeah! Live At Woodstock, I can't believe that some people managed to actually tab Woodstock and hats off to them! Cus that mustn't of been too easy!
