A free-and-easy style of performance is appropriate for this extremely popular cantata-musical about Jonah and the whale. The score is for unison voices, narrator and piano (with chord symbols). There are opportunities for a suitable group of jazz instrumentalists to use the piano score as the basis for improvisation, and there's even hand clapping and finger clicking for the singers!

Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating Jonah Man Jazz is a fabulous cantata whith amazing piano accompaniment and lyric lines. It is not a serious musical, but great for someone who is looking for something short and fun!
Robbie Hand

Customer Rating This is a terrific cantata and was used as a Finale at our Girls' Brigade Display. The girls really enjoyed performing it and the audience loved it.

Customer Rating I sang this as part of a Merton Schools choir at Wimbledon Town Hall in the mid 1970's and thought it was brilliant then. I assumed it had disappeared and was delighted to find the sheet music still available. A great one for kids !
Stonker

Customer Rating I accompanied over one hundred primary school children performing 'Jonah Man Jazz'. Wow! I've never forgotten it and neither have the children. The running time isn't very long at all, about ten minutes I think. However, the music is absolutely fantastic and is guaranteed to blow the audience away. The piano part is a little bit challenging in some songs (if you're not used to playing jazz) but totally enjoyable and well worth the extra practice. You won't be disappointed!

Customer Rating This is such a blast from the past. I sang this at school over 20 years ago and can still remember all the words!!! Buy this for your pupils - it's fab.

Customer Rating Wow! I thought I would never see/hear this again! I performed this on two seperate occassions whilst at middle school and loved it! I still find myself singing snippets every now and again around the house - 25yrs later!!!!

Customer Rating I remember singing this piece about 30 years ago and some of it I can still sing from memory! Looking for a filler for a concert next year, this sprung to mind immediately. 10-15 minutes of good singable music which is easy to learn and, more importantly for an average player, it is mostly relatively simple to play whilst still being effective & enjoyable for the listener. Primarily aimed at younger singers, this is nonetheless perfectly suitable for those of us who are a little older but still sing with enthusiasm.

Customer Rating this is a classic. i did it at school and still remember all the words to all the songs. brilliant lyrics and melodies that are jazzy and contemporary and the narrative just flows

Customer Rating A lovely piece. I enjoyed it when I sang it as a child, 40 years ago, and my choirs have enjoyed it on the occasions I have performed it with them. It is especially gratifying in this i-pod day and age that my 9-11 year olds find the music fresh and exciting to sing. Well done Michael Hurd.
