Mendelssohn’s Elijah is an oratorio for SATB soli, SATB chorus, orchestra and organ, with the text derived from the Lutheran Bible by Julius Schubring. The English version of the text was translated by William Bartholemew.

This New Novello Choral Edition of the vocal score contains comprehensive performance notes and detailed editorial markings and suggestions, as edited by Michael Pilkington. The German text is also included in the vocal score, and a German translation of the performance notes is also provided.

Good readable print
Does not match to any other edition as Mr Jenkins changed many of the words. Only get this if you know this is the edition being used by your choir.

The score is furnished with English and German Text and some views on the work itself.
The printing of the front cover seems dirty. Some of the red was on the edge of the white portion expecially at the binding edge.

Not only the music well displayed, but lots of background information about the composer and the meaning of the work.
It would be nice to have the binding of the book made so the pages stay open at any page, rather than tend to flip themselves shut.

Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating A comprehensive vocal score in both English and German with piano accompaniment. The preface includes a history about the composing of the work, information about the translation and a few notes on metronome marks followed by an explanation of editorial procedure. Both text and notation are easy to follow. The size and weight of the score, determined by the length of the work, make it a little difficult to handle during performance. Otherwise an excellent buy and a very popular version.

Customer Rating excellent clear score.. We sang this in our choir years ago and i miss it, so decided to buy the score. Can't go wrong ...english AND german text underneath the notes.

Customer Rating good value. for me it would be generally more clear without the german text.

Customer Rating The New Novello Choral Editions have earned a superb reputation for clarity, greatly aiding sight-reading.

Unfortunately this score, Elijah, is not up to scratch. Introducing multiple languages on the page wastes space and reduces clarity.

If there is demand for multiple language editions these should be published separately so that customers can selct the appropriate version for their needs. Not amalgamated.

Please Novello ... it's not just the extra lines of text ... it's also the alternative rhythms to support them ... all mixed up ... it's a mess.

Novello's approach may maximise short term profit .... but at the expense of quality and the long term image of the brand.
John

Customer Rating Goods arrived in excellent condition and are just what I wanted, thank you.
