  • It adds a specimen test in the exam format and provides a set of revision notes on the key areas.
  • All exercises and examples have been revised and many new exercise drills have been added.
  • Concept explanations have been simplified for greater ease of understanding.
  • The book's layout has been made clearer by putting the main text against a white background.

Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating These are nice books. I think they are better presented than the Lina Ng ones, with nicer text and pictures. They are well laid out, well explained. But as with many theory books, I think more examples would be useful.

Customer Rating These are the best theory books for children. Don't be misled because there are so many good reviews for the Eric Taylor books - that's just because people haven't found this series yet. These are vastly superior both in terms of clarity and appeal. Everything you need to know is explained. OK, there are no model answers available, but why on earth would you consider preparing for an exam without a teacher?

Customer Rating Mostly very positive and manageable for the youngsters, just occasionally explanations are a little confusing.

Customer Rating I have found this book excellent as a back-up. It is very colourful and attractive to the younger pupils who find difficulty in understanding theory.

Customer Rating The best theory workbook I've found. Have now bought it for both my children, aged 9 and 11 - both find it easy to understand, clearly laid out and not too babyish. I much prefer it to the AB Music Theory in Practice.

Customer Rating I've tired this with 10 of my students so far, and they all love it and ask if I can set more of it for homework!

I can't speak highly enough of this book, which follows the ABRSM syllabus closely. It's structure is similar to the Music Theory in Practice by Eric Taylor, but the topics are broken down much more, with lots more exercises and opportunity to really understand each topic.

The descriptions and explanations are good, and allow younger students to work much more independently than they can for other theory books. Also, the layout, colours and pictures is one which makes you actually 'want' to fill in the books.

Customer Rating Brilliant book. Covers exactly the same topics as the ABRSM's Music Theory in Practice book, but is more colourful, and breaks down information more gradually, with more chance for students to learn in easy steps. This book also contains pictures of the piano keys, alongside the stave, which I have found very useful in helping my students understand how to read pitch.

Without exception, every child who I've introduced to this book loves it, asks to work on it and often comes to lesson having done extra 'homework'!
