Description

This is a rich and expressive setting of William Chatterton Dix's famous words. Opening with an elegant melody line for sopranos or tenors, it flowers into full SATB choral textures, both accompanied and a cappella.

Containing a delicate soprano solo, lush choral writing, and a tender recurring melody, What child is this? will make an enchanting feature in any Christmas service or concert.

Rating Review
Customer Rating This setting, by former Gonville and Caius College organ scholar, Thomas Hewitt Jones, of words by Victorian author William Dix, is a poignant contrast to over-cheerful Christmas fare. Within the capabilities of most church choirs, it has a haunting melody in D minor, and provides enough challenges and opportunities to guarantee satisfaction for choirmaster and choir. Heartily recommended.
