Description

Portraits In Jazz is a selection of twelve pieces by Valerie Capers which draws on a variety of jazz styles associated with famous artists including Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, and Ella Fitzgerald.

The pieces are simple yet delightful, and this volume presents a refreshing approach to exploring jazz while improving your piano technique. This volume is perfect for intermediate standard players (approximately Grades 4-5) of any age, and includes a CD with performances by the composer.

Valerie Capers

Dr Valerie Capers received her early schooling at the New York Institute for the Education of the Blind and is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music. She is equally at home in jazz and classical idioms and as a performer appeared with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown, Wynton Marsalis, and Paquita D'Rivera. She is probably best known as an innovative educator.

Rating Review
Customer Rating A lovely set of pieces with plenty of variety in both mood and execution. I like the way the pieces relate to many of the jazz 'greats" too. There is plenty in this little gem to challenge intermediate players, whoever you are!
