Following the release of Microjazz Collections 1, 2 and 3 with brand-new audio CDs in 2011, Microjazz Absolute Beginners has now been given the same treatment, and with the content broken down into bite-size chapters, the process of learning to play keyboard through the styles you enjoy simpler than ever!

This tutor book takes first-time players steadily through basic keyboard technique and theory using simple pieces in popular styles such as jazz, blues, rock 'n' roll and reggae. Each piece is complemented by a distinctive Microjazz-style accompaniment to be played by a teacher or intermediate pianist transforming even the easiest tunes into unmistakable Microjazz pieces.

Couple these with the newly-recorded backing tracks and you will hear the unique sound world of Microjazz come alive right from the very first lesson.

GB New teacher
Maybe good for adult learners. Comprehensive explanations at start, and accompaniment on CD means simple playing can sound interesting straight away.
Too complicated for child learners. CD accompaniment is syncopated, so too hard for children to play on beat rhythms. Gave up teaching this book after first lesson.

Its a good starter book.
Its quite expensive, and doesn't really do anything that other beginner books don't.

Rating Review
Customer Rating This is a fun way to learn the basics of piano playing. There is a CD, with gentle jazzy accompaniments, and easy printed accompaniments that a teacher can play at the lower end of the piano while the pupil is using the middle part of the piano.
Keeping in time with the CD makes the pupils much more focused on counting beats properly, and the accompaniments make even very basic playing sound interesting.
Only 4 stars because I would have liked a few more up-tempo pieces.
