Well presented, with good vocal exercises, music reading skills, and attractive songs that appeal to a range of age groups. With the companion excellent accompaniment book ( to purchase separately) it is good to use both as a course of study or to dip in and out of.
The keys are great for girls, but for young men with changing voices it is a challenge.

Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating I have taught singing for 20 years, and would not recommend this book to my worst enemy. Many of the exercises will actually induce tension and rigidity and inhibit singing. Anyone who is not confident about singing will find this "method" difficult or impossible to follow, and will give up. I tried it with one of my most graduate singers, and she agreed with me. We both thought it a terrible book. Don't waste your money.

Customer Rating This is a fantastic book. I have used it with my students who have all benefited from the clear guidelines and vocal exercises. It is packed full of songs of various types from folk songs to pop. I would highly recommend it to anyone who teaches beginner singers or to anyone wishing to learn how to sing properly.

Customer Rating This book really does offer a way in, with sensible answers to those questions which we are all asked. It is a very sound, thoughtful and well-paced introduction to the subject, with excellent repertoire choices. If the guidance in this book has been followed, there will not be any misconceptions about singing to unravel once the would-be singer does arrive at your studio - a good foundation will have been laid.
Assocation of Teachers of Singing

Customer Rating This is a brilliant, brilliant book! I am an eager amateur and I just love to sing but have never had any lessons as I could not afford them and truth to tell would have been too embarrassed to sing in front of a teacher. This book has set me straight on so many things from correct posture, warming up and how to breathe properly. I absolutely recommend it for any one wishing to make a truly joyful noise but in the correct way. Any comments to the contrary must be nonsense or professional snobbery!

Customer Rating I teach mainly 11-18yr olds and find this book incredibly useful both for progression with learning to sing (useful info re breathing & posture) and general musicianship (reading music & performance in particular). It is well-structured and progressive - always handy for beginners - and the clear layout and uncomplicated language make it approachable enough for students of any age to understand and use alone, as well as in lessons. Highly recommended!
