WGC GB Mum of enthusiastic beginner
The CD that comes with the book is really useful for a beginner.
Apart from the cost, which I thought was a bit on the high side; it would have been really helpful if there was a little introduction on note designations, time signatures and so on. As this book is targeted at beginners, helping them get the basics right is vital!

Good range of beginner's music in different styles.
Engaging pictures and cartoons - the kids really enjoy these as well as the music itself
There's a lack of expression marks (i.e. f /p / crescendo) in the pieces - to bring the music to life, you need to add these in for your pupils

Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating Having taught violin since 1990 I used to use the old Abracadabra books, but have not been pleased with the new verion at all. This book came as a free gift from the ABRSM and I tried it out on an 8 year old who was doing violin more at the parents suggestions. using this book and the CD has resulted in pracice with no nagging, progress being made and a happy pupil.

It is progressive, interesting and a breath of fresh air. Cannot recommend it enough and am about to buy 6 more copies for the pupils at my school as they all love it.

NB I am a faculty head of arts and music in a high school so I have lots of opportunities to see good and bad books all the time.

Customer Rating Useful material presented in a bright format. CD's sound very 'digital' so it's just as well there's a book of traditional violin/piano accompaniments available as well.

Customer Rating Great book for the beginner violinist. Packed full of fun pieces that progress in difficulty through the book. Illustrations are lovely - my pupils love them! As a teacher, I would recommend this book as it also provides activities to help learn various aspects of the pieces.

Customer Rating This is a great book for beginners and the students I use it with absolutely love it!

Customer Rating These books are the best ever. i use them for individual, wopps and group lessons and everyone loves them. They have just the right amount of repetition and all the tunes have technical and musical elements built in. They suit everyone from the least able to the most. I hope they will produce books for the next levels? Makes my life so much easier and more satisfying!!

Customer Rating This is a perfect first degree violin book. Colourfull, easy, with excellent backing tracks, smart, intelligently composed. Plenty of tunes on open strings starting with pizzicato, which build confidence, level of difficulty rises slowly, change of strings, 1st finger, two fingers, etc. I bought it for my bored pupil, and now all my first degree students play with great satisfaction from this book. Backing tracks are good quality, diversified with elements of world music, well recorded- yes sometimes electronically -but perfectly. In overall 5/5! It`s worth it.
