LONDON GB 20th Century music expert
Quality of music: Saariaho has here composed an eerily beautiful and effective piece with what are fairly limited resources. The music is wonderful IMHO.
Also, the cover is lovely and the overall product is very nicely presented. I am a fan of having the title etc printed on the spine and Chester has done this here.
The score is digitally printed rather than lithographically printed. Because of this, the score is relatively faint and the decrescendo and crescendo markings are shaky. Slur lines also, and hemi/demi/semiquavers too, especially when not horizontal and clash with the lines of the staff/bar. Look closely and you'll see.
Also, English translations of the poetry would be nice as well as an extended explanation by the author (Saariaho) of
her intentions/aims re. this piece.
