Customer Rating During my time as a professional guitar teacher I have often found it a challenge when introducing younger children to the instrument. This book has helped me tremendously in my efforts to establish an achievable and structured course of study for these younger students. The book provides a variety of pieces and exercises in a range of styles and solves the tablature/notation dilemma by using both methods along with chord boxes and finger diagrams. I would recommend this book to any parent or teacher as a great introduction to guitar playing and at under six quid you really can't go wrong!

Customer Rating Not bad at all, one of the few books for children that uses tablature and open chords, as any guitarist after 1955 is likely to do. The book starts off with melodic pieces before introducing chords then combining the two to make songs. The main problem with the book is the varying difficulty curve. Some of the melodic pieces can be quite difficult for a beginner only to be followed by something significantly easier. In the chord section the notoriously difficult F is used early on but then it is never used in the songs. The good aspect of this book is the pieces that have chords and melodies so they can be played as a duet. If you pick and choose what you do this is a good book and kids find it enjoyable. All in all it's a pretty good book that would have benefitted from the input of a decent editor.
