Customer Rating This book is fantastic with an amazing selection of songs and it provides outsanding accuracy with the synth solos. If any keyboardist is a fan of Dream Theater then this is a MUST BUY! I also recommended it to any keyboardist or pianist who wants to broaden their playing range as this will open them up to a new, complex and beautiful style of music.

Customer Rating Any fan of Dream Theater who plays piano or keyboards should buy this. Don't be put off by the prospect of tackling the complex stuff that DT are famous for if you're a relatively inexperienced player. Hearing yourself playing some of the simple riffs is rewarding in itself. For those who are of a more advanced ability, there is a plethora of material to be getting to grips with.
Also, don't be disheartened if you don't own (or in my case, being a student, can't afford) a synthesiser that can bend notes. I am lucky enought to own a digital piano, so I can still experiment with voices such as strings, organs and leads, but even learning these songs on a piano is sufficient. The earlier songs i.e. from 'Images and Words' and 'Awake', despite having bending notes in them, don't necessarily need them and you can play a great sounding version with an instrument that is incapable of bending notes (playing Metropolis Part 1 is particularly delightful). However, the later songs with the input from Jordan Rudess and increased technology make it a little harder to replicate the sound of some of the solos with just a piano.
In short, if you like DT or just like to be challenged, this is a must-buy!
Gregg
