Description
Stravinsky had been a member of the Russian Orthodox Church since 1926. It may therefore seem peculiar that he would choose to write a concerted Latin mass. However, the choice of the traditional Latin text of the Catholic Mass was a practical one: the Russian Orthodox Church prohibited the use of instruments in services, and Stravinsky did not want to write an unaccompanied vocal work. For SATB Chorus and double Wind Quintet.
