Description

My First Classical Music Book is a delightfully colourful introduction to classical music, designed to fire the imagination of children aged 5-7 years. Readers are asked to think about the different places in which we might hear music. Then, each of the major composers and musical instrument families are introduced and brought to life in a vivid and enchanting way. Throughout the book, children are referred to the accompanying audio CD so that they can hear examples as they read. This is the most exceptional book of its kind, providing an absorbing experience for both eyes and ears. The colourful illustrations are provided by Jason Chapman.

  • An interactive and original approach that makes learning fun
  • 60 attractively designed pages with amusing animal characters - children will discover something new and quirky every time they pick up the book
  • CD contains 28 recordings of works mentioned in the book, as well as a track providing pronunciations of the composers' names
Please note that the song list is only for the CD; no sheet music is included.

Staff Reviews

Staff Rating "This is lovely!": The exact words of my 7 year old sister as she went through this book. There were other, equally glowing, comments. I bought it for her as a 7th birthday present, and my initial worries that it would be to young for her were quickly put to rest. She couldn't get through it quickly enough. I think its success comes down to the fact that it presents like a story book. The illustrations are really fun, and the musical concepts are explained brilliantly for a younger understanding. It is a great musical grounding because it teaches children to listen to music with understanding. My brother-in-law is a music teacher, and he was also very excited about it, wanting to know whether there is a CD-Rom version he can use to project onto the wall in his classes. How about it, Naxos?
