Dmitri Shostakovich: Second Waltz (Suite No.2 For Jazz Orchestra)
Description
When Stalin announced in 1936 that all artistic and musical work would henceforth be under the control of the Party, Shostakovich had already composed the first Jazz suite. When he composed the second suite in the autumn of 1938, it was on commission from the newly formed U.S.S.R. State Jazz Band, an ensemble created to control the public's taste in popular music. This piece may be more familiar to some as the theme music for Stanley Kubrick's final film, Eyes Wide Shut. Arranged for Piano solo.
