Rating Review
Customer Rating This is an awesome book which contains all the classic Billy Mayerl pieces. Ranging from the playable Ace of Diamonds to the hard but playable Harp of the Winds to the well nigh impossible but magical Marigold, this book has something for everyone - but watch out, I think the difficulty rating of 4 should be upgraded to 5. At least grade 8 ability is needed to make the most of this book, and a way beyond to master the truly difficult ones. But at this price, it's a must have for all advanced jazz pianists and a breath of fresh air for advanced classical pianists - and all with no improvisation required (yay!).

Customer Rating A great compilation of items by Billy Mayerl, not easy to play, but very enjoyable once the notes are worked out. An excellent introduction to early jazz style for classically trained pianists.

Customer Rating Nicely presented album including some, but not all, of Billy Mayerl's best known. Print quality is very good and layout readable. All the pieces are attainable by intermediate/advanced pianists. I can see why some of the lesser known pieces included have not lasted. As is usual with prolific composers, 50% of arrangements are weak similarities to the good stuff. I think the 1930's piano style is very pleasing and sounds nice when played well. It is of its era and can sound dated though perfectly valid, these days. Whether the album should be called 'Jazz' may be misleading as the term may warrant subclassification to distinguish from more progressive styles.

Customer Rating A generous selection of music, well presented and at a reasonable price. I'm enjoying remembering the pieces which were commonly heard at one time. I'm also trying the most famous of them, Marigold
Instruments are OK!

Customer Rating I would highly recomend this book for anyone who is interested in Billy Mayerls music. I first learned one of his songs, Railroad Rhythm, when I heard it on a CD. It took me about six months to learn it because I was only 14 and most of his songs are what I would consider advanced. When I heard more of his songs I absolutely loved them and had to get the music for them. This is a great combination of his songs.
