Description

'Close Harmony' offers unaccompanied arrangements of a variety of well-loved songs, from the 1920's to the 1970's. Performances should work equally well with choirs or just four voices. Arranged by Nicholas Hare for SSAA. Helpful performance notes are included for each of the songs, and the arrangements are notated on two staves for easy piano rehearsal.

Staff Reviews

Staff Rating Phew! These tunes are tricky. Fiendish to learn, but fantastic once you've nailed them. Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend is a particular favourite of ours. Sound of Silence has some nice echo (echo, echo) touches too. A brilliant book...if only there was a second volume.

Customer Rating This book should not be called 'Barbershop'
The songs are a cappella certainly, but not arranged according to 'barbershop harmony style. They should be homophonic in texture and the lead line (melody) should be in the second soprano (i.e with 1st soprano above!
The arranger should seek advice from The Ladies Association of Barbershop Singers or Sweet Adeline International. I was most disappointed in the songs in this book.

Customer Rating I love this book! I myself use it to practise layering in music technology, I sing both soprano lines and a friend sings both alto and we layer them, they are beautiful classic barbershop harmonies and a wonderful selection of songs
