Description

If you can play piano but want to learn how to improvise in blues, rock and jazz styles, this step-by-step method will teach you how. Improvisation is a skill that can be learned but success depends on starting with musical tasks that are easy to achieve and understand, and that is the starting point of this book. It's suitable for both piano and electronic keyboard and has easy-to-follow instructions that will get you improvising right from the beginning. The companion CD features examples of the pieces and can be heard with or without the piano part.

Rating Review
Customer Rating It's almost impossible to teach yourself to improvise, (well, it was for me) but this book nevertheless provides an excellent grounding in Jazz standards with some really great riffs to add to your repetoire and a lot of interesting information about the various blues scales which is a) vital information for anyone wanting to improvise and b) very interesting for any scholars of music and it's theory. So there are good reasons to buy the book and I'm glad it's in my collection.
As I said at the start if you want to really learn to improvise it's best to sit with someone who can - my old teacher was more than happy to help me out - as it'll move your game on far quicker and with more enjoyment (you're playing with someone else) than you can from a book.
