Description

The Trumpet is undeniably a difficult and unpredictable instrument to play, and it is technical proficiency that enables one to perform with beauty, control, endurance and consistency. As a result, dedicated students of the Trumpet often experience a 'symphony' of techical phobias. This book presents a method to sytematically deal with these problems in a musical way through carefully organised technical, harmonic and melodic studies and concise text.

Rating Review
Customer Rating This is a brilliant brass tutor. It covers similar areas to the Arban but is more approachable. I passed grade 8 cornet several years ago and have a music degree yet I continue to be stimulated and challenged by the Vizzutti method books. However, I can also pick out exercises for the intermediate students I teach. I find the best way to approach this book, especially if you're not having lessons, is to attempt one exercise from each section at a time. The book begins with "Long Tones" - perfect for warming up (with some higher ones later on that will test your stamina). The standard "Lip Flexibilities" are present, some quite basic and some more complex ones. The "Technical Studies" are based on scalic patterns (major, minor, chromatic, whole tone and diminished). These are followed by "Finger Flexibilities" that really test the weaker fingers. There are also many tonguing exercises (single, double and triple and also practicing the "K" tongue in isolation) and some "Upper Register and Endurance" studies expanding range up to the G above high C and down to pedal G. There are Etudes scattered throughout, neatly stringing together some of the techniques you have been practicing
