Description

The inspiration for Ludovico Einaudi's I Giorni was a 12th-century folk song from Mali about a hippopotamus who was cherished by the residents of a nearby village but killed by a hunter. ‘The song,’ writes Einaudi in his succinct liner note, ‘is sung as a lament for the death of a king or a great person or for the loss of a loved one.’ The result is a tender and introspective set of 14 piano pieces. This work was written after Einaudi heard the kora playing of Toumani Diabate whilst travelling in Mali.

Customer Rating Einaudi's works are hypnotic and haunting, and this is an excellent collection of his music. I'm very much a beginner pianist but have been able to play several selections with little trouble so despite the intermediate tag it should be accessible for most players, and a lovely challenge to create such gorgeous melodies for yourself: teachers might find excellent source material for work on arpeggio and pedal skills. Many of the pieces also work very well on the harp, I discovered.

Customer Rating Einaudi is a genius! The modern classical 'minimalist' music in this book is beautiful. If somebody would wish to bring tears to peoples' eyes and inspire an audience, this would be the very book you should buy. Also, the music is playable for almost everyone at any grade level.
