Rating Review

Customer Rating In this DVD Steve Smith demonstrates many of the concepts behind his playing, and places these concepts within both a technical and musical setting. The first DVD, covering technique, covers a range of topics in considerable detail. There are a number of exercises shown to develop your facility with the drumset, and though this is generally pretty advanced stuff there are some more basic exercises. The exercise on developing a swing pulse is particularly useful, even to the beginner. In the second DVD Smith plays a range of musical styles in roughly chronological order before climaxing with some pretty blistering performances with his own band, Vital Information. It is easy to see how the thechniques developed in DVD one cross over to DVD two. The DVD extras are also well worth checking out, with the hi-hat solo a treat in its own right.
