Description

Solo piano work written in 1996 by the acclaimed Milanese composer. Einaudi writes "The idea of Le Onde was to write something inspired by Virginia Woolf's novel The Waves. I was really intrigued by the form of the novel, which is very complex and interesting because some parts are written in italics and others in normal text. The parts in italics are like a cadence running through the book. The book is a description of what people see during one day, starting from the light of the morning and by the end of the book night has fallen. Every time the italic chapters come back, you see a different change of light on what's happening on the shore." He started writing all the pieces for Le Onde inspired by this idea, but reached a point when he felt there was still a piece lacking from the overall picture. "I said 'yes, it's missing Le Onde', which had in its opening the cadence of a wave. The idea was that the music flowed and was developing by itself, from the opening arpeggio, like when you see a wave developing in its space, it's developing because it has to. It's perpetual motion."

Rating Review
Customer Rating Truly spiritual beautiful music. Einaudi makes you feel exactly how he wants, pulling your emotions all over the place. Moving if you are sad, uplifting if you are happy. Makes me wish I could play the piano!
Weeze

Customer Rating I heard Ludovico Einaudi's music today, played by my teacher, and found the reason why I am so appreciative of solo piano music. Le Onde has some truly amazing pieces, very expressive, that will enhance any pianists repertoire. Truly inspirational.

Customer Rating Absolutely incredible. The pieces are truly beautiful and yet so simple to play. I loved them all although my favourites have to be Le Onde and Lontano. Every piece brings me joy to play and the book is a must-buy for any pianist who enjoys real music.

Customer Rating This selection of scores has to be the best yet! I have so enjoyed playing these pieces. I used Le Onde for my GCSE performance and a concert in aid of the tsunami, I felt that it was a very apt piece for the occasion and it was thoroughly enjoyed in Malmesbury Abbey where the melody echoed and created a thought provoking ambience.

Customer Rating I love Le Onde piano book and of course my favourite piece has to be Le Onde. It's fairly easy to play and everybody who has listened to it, loves it and asks me to play it again. Most of the songs are difficult but I can play Le Onde and I'm only 15 and never had a piano lesson! Much advised to all!

Customer Rating The one word that springs to mind abut this title is 'FANTASTIC'. I don't usually play classical titles but i heard the piece Le Onde on an advert and had to buy the song book. Each and every composition from Ludovico in this title contrast one and other perfectly. I recommend this 100%!!!!!!!

Customer Rating Amazing - I love this book, I heard "Le Onde" on a CD of it and just had to buy the book. A Definite must have is the CD to go with the book, I play along with it so I can get the tempo right. It's incredible the music he comes out with even though it is minimalistic. I played "Le Onde" first but try out the second last one "Sotto Vento" and the really complicated looking one "Onde Corte" there are really good. I found them hard to play at first but once you get going you will be fine. The great thing about these pieces they are so simple that you can go weeks without practice and still play them and they still sound amazing.

Customer Rating When I have previously bought the sheet music for albums of this kind there have always been poor tracks, however, this is untrue with Le Onde. It is filled with haunting flowing melodies. BRILLIANT!!!!!!

Customer Rating Students seem to be really keen on this sort of music at the moment, especially GCSE students. It's a good book.

Customer Rating I heard the CD and immediately wanted to play the music, although relatively simply arranged and quite easy to play it creates an atmosphere and is very effective. I would recommend this book to any Einaudi fans or budding pianists.

Customer Rating Beautiful, minimalist music with haunting melodies. Especially "Le Onde", which was recently used on TV for the John Lewis advert. It looks a bit difficult to start with, but with practice it is worth it, and the tunes themselves provide the motivation to persevere. The only reason I've given it 4 stars is because the whole set is now available in "The best of Ludovici Einaudi" together with 2 other albums, and that is better value.

Customer Rating Sublime- Le Onde is truly the most stunning composition I have heard and played recently. So simple yet so expressive. So subtle yet so powerful. A must have in every pianist's repertoire!

Customer Rating A fabulous set of piano scores. I'm glad that previous reviewers have described Einaudi's work as 'minimalist' rather than 'simple' (a term I have seen used elsewhere). It is very easy to classify albums such as Le Onde and I Giorni as easy listening music, as the ear is deceived by the simplicity of the chords and cadences into thinking that ease of listening equates to simplicity of composition. But this is not the case - Einaudi is a master of understatement, and playing from the scores (gratifyingly, always an accurate representation of the original pieces) reveals the hidden complexity of the music and the amount of care that has been taken to produce exactly the right sounds and emotions in the most direct way possible.
