Customer Rating To provide some context for my review I would like to say that I am a guitar teacher and I tutor students for their Rockschool greades.

This DVD doesn't help much more than the info supplied in the curriculum book. The guidelines on each piece are only cursory, and inforemation on how to emulate the guitar sound on the recording (amp settings, effects, etc.) would have been helpful. There were times that the close-ups were slightly out of sync with the audio, which can be confusing for the beginner (whom this DVD is intended for).

Important at this grade is the use of dynamics and I really felt more could be said on this topic, perhaps with some recommended exercises. Also, as with the Debut/Grade 1 DVD there is too little information of the Sight Reading/Improv or Ear Training (where many beginners battle the most) part of the exam.

Also helpful would be suggestions of what types of things examiners will be looking for. For example, knowing that the examiner will or won't mark you on your picking technique or hand position would be helpful.

This DVD (and the DVDs for Grades Debut/1 and 3) comes across as more of a brochure/marketing tool and less of an instructional video.

As a teacher I can address all these issues with my students, but the DVD offers little more for them than my instruction does. Only buy this if you absolutely cannot get hold of a teacher to help you. If you have a teacher, save your money.
