In an industry dominated by men Isabella Wallich is an exception - the first female record producer, director and record company owner.
A successful concert pianist at the age of 19, Wallich soon turned record producer, director and businesswoman, founding her own record company and working for Decca, Pye, EMI and the BBC. Her work involved encounters with some of the most significant artists of the period, including Elgar, Karajan, Menuhin, Rachmaninov, Lotte Lehmann, Schnabel and countless others.
Through her recordings, Isabella championed music largely unknown to 20-century ears, and a special CD of examples is included with this biography.
