Description

Samuel Barber's Capricorn Concerto from 1944 is named after the house in Mount Kisco, New York, where Barber lived with his partner and collaborator Gian-Carlo Menotti from 1943 to 1974. This is the Score and Parts edition of the work, which is scored for Flute, Oboe, and Trumpet, with a Piano reduction of the original String Ensemble.

Customer Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating A wonderful and highly underrated score, the Capricorn concerto is the younger sibling of Barber's three established concerto masterpieces. It is a neoclassical work, unique in Barber's output, but consistently fresh and is by turns ravishingly beautiful and brilliantly exciting.

The scoring is (intentionally) the same as that of Bach's second Brandenburg concerto, so would make an ideal concert coupling.
