Rating Review
Customer Rating I have mixed thoughts on this book. Whilst it is in many ways a lively fun book and more 'with it' than, say, the Eta Cohen range it is almost trying to hard to be trendy. Little things like extra teachers parts and unnecessary symbols to denote bow retakes and zig zags to indicate bowing patterns make it seem rather cluttered.
Most teachers will be able and willing to decorate a simple tune to play along with their students and the students don't necessarily want to pay the writers of Abracadabra to tell the tutors what to play! Maybe I'm too picky but I think the previous version which was simpler but full of memorable tunes and was better value for money.
In summary, the bones of the book are sound but you are paying for a lot of unnecessary hype and over the top editorial.

Customer Rating I much preferred the first edition of this. The page layout is too fussy for under 10s, with far too much information crammed in. The book is not trying to be a "teach yourself" so why is it not left to the teacher to explain the relevant information to the pupil? The teacher's accompaniments are too complicated and confuse a child trying to concentrate - the piano parts were much more appropriate in the original edition. It is however still the best book around for nice tunes and value for money..(a MUST when you are asking a parent to buy it for their child..!)
Anon.
