The Rachmaninov Concerto No.3 is my favourite composition. I first heard this 50 years ago, listening to the radio one brooding summer evening. The performance was from the Proms and played by Cyril Smith. Since then I have loved the Rachmaninov concertos. I do not mind cuts made in this work, they can improve it.
A huge concerto, an emotional explosion, piano writing very logical (unlike the 2nd with its creative fingering). Not as difficult as is made out.
