Description

The AB Guide To Music Theory is intended to help people learning music to understand how music is written down, what the various signs and symbols denote, and what is meant by the common technical words used by musicians. Arising out of this, it provides an introduction to the basic elements in harmony and musical structure.
In the main, this book deals with the subjects of the Associated Board's theory syllabus for Grades 6-8. However, for the sake of continuity, the information has not been broken up to correspond with individual grades.

Customer Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating A comprehensive guide to everything required for grades 6-8 theory. Also useful for AS and A level music, and can even be referred to for university level questions. Perhaps a little wordy, but thorough nonetheless.

Customer Rating Very detailed, but it is advisable to buy the first book in the series, as this book is a continued version of the first. Good for exams!

Customer Rating The second of two volumes on music theory, both are clearly and concisely written. This guide is effectively a continuation of Part I, so it starts at about grade 6 level. The second volume goes more into the specifics of different instruments, of orchestration, and so on. I would give the combined pair of books 5 stars, this second volume gets 4 as it would be quite difficult to follow without first reading Part I.
