Description

The Mikado, arguably the greatest masterpiece among Gilbert and Sullivan's remarkable series of comic operas, remains undiminished in its popularity.

A newly edited, newly engraved full-score publication based on Sullivan's autograph and the first edition of the full score published two years before the composer's death. Edited by Carl Simpson and Ephraim Hammett Jones, it corrects a large number of errors and incorporates libretto changes made by Gilbert after the original publication.

Rating Review
Customer Rating This is essential for any serious student of Sullivan's methods and any lover of G&S. It allows you to see instrument effects that are not reproduced in the vocal score. It is important as few other full scores of Gilbert and Sullivan are as easily available.

It attempts to reprint the original score, and there are interesting differences from what has become familiar, such as a different fanfare before the finale to act two and a line for Pish Tush in "So please you sir".

But it also attempts to provide a score for modern performances and regrettably all parts for the A clarinet and cornet have been transposed for B flat instruments. The horn parts have also been rewritten for instruments in F througout.
