In 1991 Nirvana released their seminal second album Nevermind and literally reinvigorated alternative music. With the final line-up of Kurt Cobain, Kris Novoselic and Dave Grohl in place they had perfected and honed their raucous heavy sound- Grohl's hard-hitting drumming adding a new dynamic to the abrasive alternative rock.

This is the album that set the template for the scores of punk-rock bands that have followed. Tracks like Smells Like Teen Spirit and Lithium demonstrate how Kurt's music was even angrier and more visceral- yet more accessible and tuneful, allowing them to gatecrash the mainstream consciousness worldwide.
