Description

The AB Guide To Music Theory is intended to help people learning music to understand how music is written down, what the various signs and symbols denote, and what is meant by the common technical words used by musicians. Arising out of this, it provides an introduction to the basic elements in harmony and musical structure.
In the main, this book deals with the subjects of the Associated Board's theory syllabus for Grades 1-5. However, for the sake of continuity, the information has not been broken up to correspond with individual grades.

Rating Review
Customer Rating Excellent and easy to follow. I have used this book in conjunction with the AB Music theory books for many years and, used correctly, it provides lots of easily explained information on a subject many children and adults find quite daunting.

Customer Rating Excellent book for using alongside actual lessons with a qualified teacher. But can be used just as well for those people who are self-taught

Customer Rating Very valuable for that piece of sheet music that has just the one symbol on it that you don't understand. It makes a great reference book but the way it is written is very much like a school book and not very easy to understand. I would still recommend it for just the sake of finding out when a symbol is killing you! Very concise up to grade 6 piano i would say. I recommend, good price too!

Customer Rating A good revision book handy for anyone doing grade 1 - 6 theory. Helps a lot.

Customer Rating My daughter who is 9 found this an extremely useful reference book for her grade 5 theory. The only criticism is that it is not particularly child- friendly, accurate and informative as it is. Although she managed well with it it could have grasped her attention and thereby aided her memory retention more if there was a version with language and visuals aimed at the younger player, but nevertheless straighforward to use.

Customer Rating Very easy to understand - exactly what we need.

Customer Rating Easy to use alongside the music theory in practice work books, as enables students to work alone too

Customer Rating I am now at Grade 4 book and, whilst my teacher is very good, I clearly have myopia at times. Perhaps at 65 I am just not learning as well as I once did!!!

I strongly recommend using this book as an invaluable supplement to theory learning - it works so well with the theory books and, I am sure, will make all the difference to my exam results.

Customer Rating Clear and concise, presented in reader-firendly layout with a helpful index at the back, this book is an important companion in the learning of music theory. Extra examples or even practice questions are lacking however.

Customer Rating The reference book to have if you need to know anything covered by the Grades 1 - 5 syllabi. Logically laid out in subject chapters, with cross references to the companion 'Music Theory in Practice' workbooks, I issue it to all students using these books!
