Lively, light and with a dancing quality, The Isles is full of Noises comes from Act 3 Scene 2 of Shakespeare's The Tempest, a comedy that is interspersed with many songs, particularly by the air spirit, Ariel.
Bob Chilcott has created a terrific work for unaccompanied mixed chorus, a piece that was commissioned by the Leith Hill Musical Festival, in celebration of its centenary in 2005. A piano part is also included for rehearsal purposes. The opening soprano and tenor melody is based on a dreamlike, oscillating two-note cell which emphasises the airy, spirited dance.
