The ABC Of Piano Playing is a fantastic progressive beginners' series for children, by Boris Berlin. Since children expect to play the piano right from the beginning, each lesson contains simple tunes which the pupil can play while learning about the keyboard and about notation. Each lesson is divided into two parts, with both playing and writing. Each 'lesson in writing' corresponds to the new idea presented in the playing, thus proving invaluable as a 'theory aid' in learning the pieces. The book is clearly presented, with delightful illustrations to accompany each piece, and contains a great deal of useful information, but without there being too much on each page, so as not to be overwhelming. These books are not meant to be self-instructing, the presentation of their contents are left to the teacher.
