Descripción

In 1713 Antonio Vivaldi saw a shift in his responsibilities as maestro di violino of Venice’s Pio Ospedale della Pietà. Until then he had mainly composed secular music, but then he turned his attention to composing sacred choral works, some of which became the most loved and treasured pieces from his musical output.

It was within the two years that followed that Vivaldi then drafted his now-famous Gloria in D RV 589. It is fascinating to think that this now regularly performed work remained obscure until the late 1920s.
