The 2005 album by Bloc Party shows a band transcending their influences, and shaking off the shackles of easy-definition to reinvent the post-punk sound for themselves. Established as part of the DFA-affiliated scene that included LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture, Bloc Party have succeeded in taking this disco/punk crossover to a wider audiences with songs of depth and significance that recall The Fall, Joy Division and Gang Of Four. Their occasionally explicit lyrics straddle the personal and the political with the flair and poignant accuracy of Radiohead.
