The volumes in this series are designed to meet the needs of candidates preparing for the Associated Board (ABRSM)examinations and to provide support material for teachers. Each volume prints all the scales and arpeggios for Grades 1-8 and an accompanying table sets out clearly the requirements by grade. Recommended speeds are also printed and helpful notes given on the various forms of articulation required.
A key feature of the series is the assistance it gives in layering the foundations of a secure technique. Each volume contains a diagram of the instrument, illustrating the essential key-work and a comprehensive fingering chart including the more usual and acceptable alternatives. In addition, highly experienced teachers have contributed notes on good fingering and on other aspects of technique, and the manual gives brief hints alongside certain of the scales and arpeggios to reinforce important points. In this way students will be encouraged to learn their scales and arpeggios thoroughly and non-specialist teachers will find much valuable assistance given in support of their work.
