This is technically quite difficult, yet fabulous to sing. Some of the harmonies are of the ‘makes the hairs on your arms stand up’ style. You do need a good sense of pitch and the ability to count time. I would recommend it to any choir that enjoys a challenge.

My re-introduction to singing in a choir - no serious singing for over 20 years, and what a fabulous piece to return to.
Dark and deep at times, light and sweet at others, not easy but very rewarding. We performed this in the fabulous setting of Southwell Minster and it was enjoyed by all. Durufle's mastery of the organ shows all the way through - a really good organist and an outstanding accompanist for rehearsal are vital. The more voices available, the better.
Revel in it - but don't expect it to be simple.

Parry at his glorious best. I understand that this piece was the one by which Parry first became widely recognised - not surprising.
Quite challenging for sight-reading; the dynamics are the most difficult aspect, but when you get there it's well worth the trouble. An audience pleaser too!
