Advanced pianists - don't be deceived by "Book 1"! Initially I assumed that this book was for beginners, but it assumes at least an intermediate (G6) standard of playing. It doesn't teach you how to play the piano, it teaches you how to play New Orleans piano. It's an interview with Dr John (the CD) which has been transcribed into short, to-the-point lessons (the book). If you can already play and want to learn something completely new, try this!

This book was introduced to me by my piano teacher having completed my Grade 8. If only I had been given it before! It contains a huge collection of technical studies for advanced pianists separated into sections, giving you the ability to move a step ahead in your piano playing. Whilst not the most tuneful or harmonious pieces of music I've ever come across, if you want really improve your technique, it'll allow you to discover a library of fantastic post-Grade 8 repertoire.
