The exercises are great and the aural tests good. The choice of repertoire is OK and appeals to some aspiring popstars! Not a bad book, by any means. Really helpful in promoting good basic knowledge of music as well as giving kids what they want in terms of songs/backing tracks etc. Helpful for teachers who are afraid of modern stuff!

For a non-rock-chick this is a great starter book! As a teacher of mainly classical repertoire, but with an increasing student list of wannabe popstars, this book is a must. It is removing my fears and prejudices very fast and my students and I are enjoying the exercises and the refreshing way the subject is presented.

A nice edition. Though later than the Sonata, it's less experimental and more easy on the ear. A couple of technical fireworks raise it above intermediate level. Typically Arnold in harmonic construction. Lovely lilting third movement with subtle harmonies. Do play with the piano!!! Most flautists only learn their part, but to get the most out of a piece you need to hear it all! This piece bears patience and close attention to the ensemble. A great piece.
