A reliable resource for students approaching grade 5 who have never done any written theory before. It is clear and has lots of exercises to complete.
This is a great selection of Beatles numbers but the violin part is quite tricky.
Most of my pupils did not know the numbers well enough to stick 'at it'.
There are some good ideas in this book but the music print is too small to read for a student or teacher.
There are a few easy pieces with very interesting backing tracks. I think the book is a good resource for students that are older or want to learn by ear.
Very useful book - I just wish the print was slghtly larger for reading off a music stand.
This has some very well written duets that are fun for both players. Some are just one page long, which is ideal for Secondary school students to acheive in short lesson. The backing tracks lead in clearly and have imaginative instrumentation.
All parts are very clear but I didn't like the way the piano part was a score and had the other parts above. This means lots of unecessary page turns.
I love this quartet 'They can't take that away from me'. It is quite hard to settle on a tempo that everyone in the quartet likes. Personally I prefer a 'very lively' start and then settle into the well known tune at a moderato tempo. There is a temptation to take it too slow and then the 'dreamy section' becomes 'spaced out' and the whole piece goes on forever. The quavers are 'straight' and not 'swing', which can make it seem dull if the speed is too slow.
The cellist in my quartet would disagree with me.
'Slap that Bass' is probably more fun to play than to listen to. It is raunchy, percussive and rather discordant - not for the 'timid'. It is also very bluesy and I think it 'grows on you'.
The three pieces in Harry Potters Stringpops are well written, not to challenging but with interest in each part. The string parts can stand alone without the piano part.
A very popular choice for pupils.
This is a very good arrangement of a Gershwin number 'They all laughed at Christopher Columbus'
The title is a bit off putting, but the music is light and easy listening. Very playable.
