We were a bit confused at first as we received what seemed to be a piano solo version and a single piano and oboe copy - so we were both fighting for the piano and oboe one. It appeared we would need two copies to be able simply to read the music as written. The oboist decided it was easiest for her to read the top line of the piano only copy so that the pianist could just read the notes.
It was only AFTER WE HAD PERFORMED the music that we realised that the oboe part was printed on the back of the piano only version! So in actual fact what you get is two versions, one with the melody incorporated into a piano solo part and the other an oboe part with separate piano accompaniment. Don't make the same mistake as us!

Gentle, comforting and serenely beautiful song which uses the words of the blessing the high priest Aaron and his sons were commanded to use to bless the people of Israel - taken from Numbers 6 verses 24-26 in the Bible.
A lovely duet. The top part reaches a high G so needs to be confident in the upper register.

The actual notes as played by Paul Desmond. But be aware that he played it differently on different occasions so don't assume you can donwload it on iTunes and instantly have the same performance. I never find this version to download as an MP3.
There are no piano accompaniments in this so a pianist will have to play by ear. We did 'Take Five' with a cor anglais instead of an alto sax which put the piano part a tone higher than written, into F minor. The same would be the case for a French Horn (although I can't imagine this on a French Horn - the cor can sound a bit like a sax xometimes). Alternatively the cor could transpose down a tone. Sounded very nice!
