Phew! These tunes are tricky. Fiendish to learn, but fantastic once you've nailed them. Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend is a particular favourite of ours. Sound of Silence has some nice echo (echo, echo) touches too. A brilliant book...if only there was a second volume.
What a joyfully eclectic collection of songs. As well as traditional tunes this has lots of songs that capture the zeitgeist, such as a bit of Abba (who thought Mamma Mia would be so all conquering) and "You Raise Me Up" - a favourite of X Factor auditionees everywhere! I like the added info on the origins of each song and the suggested activities give a good starting point for classroom discussion. The CDs of backing tracks are really handy, there's rarely a Pianist (or Piano) around when you really need one!
I think I am actually in love with my Vintage Folk Guitar. The neat little body suggests a delicate guitar for girls, but the big, bright sound is rocky and extremely satisfying. The smaller dimensions make the fingerboard easier to navigate. Cunningly, on this guitar I sound like a much better player than I actually am. I can't reccommend it highly enough!
Who would have thought that bluegrass would provide such a rich vein for musical theatre. The story is simplicity itself...Floyd Collins gets trapped in a cave and awaits rescue while the press jumps on the bandwagon and all hell breaks loose above him. This book accurately recreates the recorded version. The challenge is to also recreate the yodelling of Christopher Innvar, the original Floyd. You realise just how brilliant he was when you try to do it yourself!
